Delta County Court Record Requests
Know what you need before you ask. A posted hearing? Use the free docket. The full chronological history? Request the Register of Action. When the wording of a filing matters, name that document itself. The Delta County Record/Document Request page gives you the local online route and the clerk's email. The same Clerk of Court holds both District and County Court files at the Delta County Combined Court.
- Identify the court, case year and class, parties, and exact record or filing date.
- Submit the official online form, email DeltaClerk@judicial.state.co.us after confirming the method, call 970-874-6280, or visit the third-floor counter at 501 Palmer Street, Room 338.
- For a paper or mailed workflow, use the Judicial Branch request form and confirm the current delivery address and identification needs with the Delta County clerk.
- Wait for access review and a fee estimate. Do not place card information on the form.
- Pay by an approved method and receive the public record by the delivery method the Delta County clerk confirms.
Two tools can help you locate a Delta County case: the free Docket Search and the paid CoCourts Register of Action. Neither one gives you an official, clerk-certified filing. The clerk's stamp is what carries weight. The Delta court page does not confirm a public terminal, so call the Combined Court before driving over.
Delta County Court Record Clerk Routing
Colorado's office names can misroute a records request. Sherry Kuhn is the Judicial Branch Clerk of Court and Probate Registrar listed on the court roster. Her counter keeps the active and closed court cases. The elected Delta County Clerk and Recorder is a separate county office entirely and holds no court files. The county's official records-routing page draws that line plainly:
The rule in practice is simple: court files belong at the third-floor court clerk. County CORA requests and the North Fork Annex will not reach the Combined Court record channel.

Kinds of Court Records
The request form sorts everything by case type and document. The criminal side covers a complaint or information. It also covers a disposition or sentence order, a protection order, a ticket, or the Register of Action. Civil options run toward an order for judgment or a transcript of judgment. A satisfaction of judgment and a protection order round out that list. Domestic, probate, water, juvenile, small-claims, misdemeanor, felony, and traffic each get their own category. Pick the one that matches your court docket entry.
- Register of Action, the chronological case index
- Complaints, informations, petitions, motions, and responses
- Minute orders, signed orders, judgments, and decrees
- Tickets, protection orders, and disposition or sentence orders
- Probate letters, wills, trusts, petitions, closing papers, and claims where access permits
One trap deserves a flag. A transcript of judgment is a clerk-issued record used for enforcement, not a word-for-word account of a hearing.
Delta County Court Record Layers
Three record products answer three different questions, and mixing them up means an incomplete request or a certification charge you never needed.
| Record Layer | What It Provides | Custodian or Channel |
|---|---|---|
| Register of Action | Chronological summary of filings, events, minute orders, settings, charges, sentences, and disposition data | Clerk for official copy; authorized vendor for unofficial real-time data |
| Filed document | The actual complaint, motion, order, judgment, ticket, decree, or other paper | Delta County Combined Court clerk |
| Certified or exemplified copy | A clerk-authenticated reproduction for a recipient that requires official proof | Delta County Combined Court clerk |
CoCourts stops at its index. Ask the Delta County clerk for the exact filing whenever the words of the court's ruling matter.
Court Records: What They Contain
A full Delta County court case file runs deeper than the free calendar. It can contain far more than any posted hearing entry shows. What you may see depends on the case class. It also depends on each document's security level. Redaction duties and any sealing order matter too. Think of the Register of Action as the map to the file.
| Case Header | Case number, court location, class, division, parties, and status where public. |
|---|---|
| Filings | Dated complaints, petitions, motions, responses, service returns, and notices. |
| Settings | Hearing date, type, courtroom, and appearance details. |
| Orders | Minute orders and signed rulings entered by the court. |
| Disposition | How a charge, claim, or case ended, with the filed order controlling specifics. |
| Costs | Financial or cost information where the Delta County record and access rules permit. |
The filed document controls the exact terms of a ruling or judgment, not the brief index description.
Delta County Court Record Form Fields
The official form wants your contact details plus enough case information to locate the item. The online workflow demands more. You must supply first and last name, email, phone, address, city, state, ZIP, and party information. A case number, business name, extra identifying facts, and date details can all narrow the search. From there, the choices narrow. You pick Delta County, the filing year, the case type, and your document choices. Give the exact title and date whenever you can. Say whether each item needs certification. The April 2025 paper form asks for identification, warns that the court cannot forward records to a third party, and notes that a Notice of Fees may land in your email spam folder. Never put card data on the request form.
Delta County Court Record Response Timing
Expect about three business days as the normal response goal, absent extenuating circumstances, per the statewide form. That is a goal, not a promise. A clerk may need an off-site file pulled. Access may need review, protected material redacted, a large copy job priced, or payment to clear. Every one of those steps can push the delivery date back.
Plan for an estimate: Ask the Delta County clerk to identify retrieval, research, redaction, postage, copying, and certification costs before work begins.
Copy Fees and Certification
Chief Justice Directive 06-01 sets court-record charges and any waivers. The numbers differ by source. The online summary shows a $0.25 baseline for electronic or coin copies, while a detailed form lists $0.75 for a paper court copy. Since the official materials conflict, ask the Delta County clerk for an estimate in your chosen format. Certification is billed per document, not per case.
| Item | Published Amount | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic or coin copy | $0.25 per page | Statewide online request form |
| Paper court copy | $0.75 per page | Detailed PDF form; confirm current estimate |
| Certified or exemplified copy | $20 per document | Plus assessed copy charges |
| Transcript of judgment | $25 | Not a hearing transcript |
| Certificate of satisfaction | $20 | Specific judgment product |
| Nonparty name search | Up to $5 | Waivers may apply under the directive |
| Research or redaction | $30 per hour | After the first hour, in 15-minute increments |
| Off-site retrieval | Actual cost | No fixed Delta County price published |
Postage sits on a separate page-range schedule in the paper form and shifts with postal rates.
Delta County Court Record Fee Source
For current court fees and their authority, the Judicial Branch fee list is the official statewide source:
That list is useful for spotting statewide charges. Still, the Delta County clerk's estimate governs the actual job: copies, postage, retrieval, and document count.
Delta County Court Record Transcripts
Transcripts travel their own path. The JDF 4 form wants the case number, county, caption, division or courtroom, judicial officer, event date and time, requested portion, appeal status, and your contact details. Once it lands, the court reporter or transcriptionist reaches out to arrange payment. Work starts only after that conversation. The published rates split by speed. Ordinary service runs $3.60 per page with delivery in 30 days. Expedited service costs $4.35 per page and arrives within 10 days. Overnight and two-hour turnarounds need a court order and cost more. A small-claims appeal audio file carries its own charge. Don't confuse these transcript rates with the document-copy fees in the Delta County clerk fee table.
Access Rules for Court Records
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 sets the access rules for Colorado court case records. The Colorado Open Records Act covers general public records, but the county's CORA queue won't get you a Delta County judicial case file. Judicial administrative records answer to their own rule. Whatever the record is decides who holds it.
Adoption, dependency and neglect, most juvenile delinquency, mental-health, paternity, and specified protected probate matters are excluded from ordinary public access. A court order is required for public access to sealed material.
Colorado sorts documents into Public, Protected, Restricted, Suppressed, and Sealed. For suppressed, juvenile, probate, confidential, or protected material, the clerk can demand government-issued identification. Keep this in mind: a blank online result does not prove the case or document is nonexistent.
Delta County Court Record Archive Questions
Old files raise practical questions. Delta County publishes no retention schedule, microfilm inventory, exhibit-release procedure, or lobby-terminal description. An aged record may sit off site. The official form permits charging actual retrieval cost. So call 970-874-6280 before you drive over. Ask whether the file is on site, whether a written request is required, and whether identification or an access order applies.
Bulk court data is different. It moves through a separate Judicial Branch cost and approval channel. That route is not the ordinary case-file request. For an older Delta County record, settle the estimated search range and delivery format before approving any work. The county's official courts overview confirms the shared state clerk structure. When several files match a name, the clerk needs more, so add an approximate year and case type if the case number is unknown.
Federal cases stay separate too. They run on the federal CM/ECF and PACER systems, not the Delta County Combined Court clerk. Never send a federal docket number to the state clerk for retrieval.
Delta County Court Record Payment Safety
Payment has its own safety rules. The paper form says the requester receives a Notice of Fees first. Approved options include a check or certified funds. A card payment by phone with the assigned researcher also works after that notice. Never put a credit-card number on the form or send one through an unsecured message. Confirm the current method with the Delta County clerk before any funds move.
Need a starting point? The Delta County docket search can surface the case number and the next setting. Still, it cannot replace the official Register of Action. It also cannot stand in for the filed order or the clerk's certification.
